IRS Help
It would possibly be true to say that almost every American taxpayer would rather find themselves in a ring with a pack of pit bulls than to receive a letter of demand from the IRS.
We have all heard horror stories from friends, relations and acquaintances about people who have been harassed by the IRS, and have even lost all their possessions. We may even know someone personally who fell prey to the tax collection department of the government.
In 2008, the IRS collected $7.7 million more than the $48.7 million of 2006. Our new president has vowed to make tax collection a priority at national level. This escalation in IRS activity will no doubt lead to many more people receiving IRS mail with distinctly bad news.
The government is aware that not all citizens are tax experts, and consequently encourage us to approach the IRS offices with any queries regarding taxes. The employees are generally well trained and knowledgeable, and will give you all the IRS help and assistance you may need.
The employees at the IRS are in actual fact only people, and in common with all people have good days and bad days. In common with all people, they also make mistakes. Unfortunately the IRS collection employees do not like admitting that they are not perfect, and that they can make an error. This makes dealing with them so much more difficult.
Should you be unfortunate enough to receive a bad news mailing from the IRS it is essential that you don’t react the way the IRS expect you to. They have bred a culture of fear, and rely on almost total obedience to attain their goals. If you have any reason to doubt the validity of their claim as a whole, or even that the amount that they say you owe to them is inaccurate, you are allowed to contest their claim.
The fundamental issue facing you now is that you need to be 100% absolutely sure that they are wrong. If so, you will need some IRS help.
Don’t waste time trying to review your records yourself, take them to a certified Tax Resolution Specialist as a matter of urgency. From the date on which you received the IRS Lien you have only ninety days in which to file a petition against the order. The CTRS will assess your case and advise you as to your chances of having the claim waived or reduced. If you are advised that your case is not strong enough, respect the advice. Arriving at a Tax Court hearing with an insubstantial case that is considered a delay tactic could see you being fined up to $25 000.
Your tax Resolution Specialist will do all the negotiation necessary with the IRS officials. They know what the IRS want to see, and they know how to handle the IRS to get the best results possible for their clients.
Not all claims are large, and if the amount being claimed from you is less than $25 000, you can claim a small case request at your local IRS office. Your matter can easily be resolved in this manner.
The bottom line when dealing with the IRS is that you do not need to panic, IRS help does exist, and is accessible to all.
